Entry Category: Biggest Loser Published On: 01-10-2008 08:36 AM After struggling with my back for too long now, both my osteopath and I decided it would be best if I stopped the exercise thing altogether. I'd rather concentrate on getting my back right than losing more weight, so I've called an end to my exercise program for now. My last weigh in at home was 96.4kg, so I'm hoping they'll let me use that weight as my final weigh in later this month. Once I'm fit and healthy again, I'll still give the 93kg target a shot in my own time. Entry Tags: This blog has no tags. Entry Title: 2nd week of DIY... Entry Category: Biggest Loser Published On: 18-09-2008 07:23 PM So we've been doing our own thing for two weeks now. My back is still giving me a lot of trouble, so I've been very limited in what I can do. Had a break for most of the first week to let it settle down a bit and slowly got back into things this week. Strangely enough, I'm still dropping off a good amount of weight. Almost 15kg down now, putting me safely under my target weight. If I can manage a kilo per week for the rest of the time, then I'll manage to get under 93kg and will make close to $3000 in sponsorship money. Entry Tags: This blog has no tags. Entry Title: 10 weeks down, now for the hard part Entry Category: Biggest Loser Published On: 07-09-2008 07:28 PM So we're through the 10 weeks of set sessions now... The final challenge was pretty tough as well - a couple big bins at the top of the hill, cups in hand we had to run to the creek at the bottom of the hill, fill the cups and run the water to the top. Took it out of everyone, but our team managed to win that one. Final week was a bit slow for me as my back is still giving me a bit of trouble. Jumped on the scales Tuesday night and was sitting on 101kg... then the next morning I was 99.6, but when it came to the final weigh in on Friday, I'd put a bit back on and was about 101.5. In any case, we've now got 7 weeks to keep going by ourselves. Looking at getting a basic program done up by the folks at the gym and will work from there, as well as some squash / tennis here and there as well. With any luck, I'll be able to knock off a few more kgs and get down to the 93kg mark, so I get a bonus $250 sponsorship money. Entry Tags: This blog has no tags. Entry Title: Week 9 done Entry Category: Biggest Loser Published On: 28-08-2008 06:54 PM So I didn't do too bad in the elimination after all. Results over the three tests (over time) are below: Beep test First time - 5.4 Second - 6.4 Third - 8.1 12 min Treadmill First time - 1.6km Second - 2.2km Third - 2.5km Pushups didn't really change much through, crunches went from 21 first time to about 43 the last time. --------------------------------------------- So that was all well and good... except sometime during all that I pinched a nerve in my lower back. It's been a week now and, with two visits to the osteopath, it's still not great. Only did two sessions this week because of that, and couldn't do half of the stuff we were supposed to. Concentrated a bit more on upper body stuff and have started doing a bit of swimming to try and sort it out. Last team challenge tomorrow, so I hope it pulls up OK before / after that. Oh, and only 1.5kg to go before I hit 100... Hopefully I can do that in the next week to hit my target before we start the 7 weeks of self-paced training. Entry Tags: This blog has no tags. Entry Title: Two weeks of hell Entry Category: Biggest Loser Published On: 19-08-2008 05:47 PM Sorry about the lack of updates here... The last two weeks I've been stuck on and off with some kind of flu / throat infection which has put a bit of a dampener on things. Had a couple days off work at one stage, on antibiotics now but still been trying to get to the training sessions. Must have been doing something right over the last couple weeks as I'm still slowly dropping the KGs. Jumped on the scales this morning and lost 2kg in a week which helps too. Officially down to 102.8 now, though last night I had a look at home and I was under 101 (before eating dinner). Anyways, we've got another elimination this Friday which is going to be a killer. Not only am I not 100% for it, but I honestly don't think I'll be able to get much better than last time. Might have to go all out on the beep test and hope that it gets me over the line. Did the three sessions during the week. Had another weigh in, but hadn't lost anything. Pushed very hard the session after and lost over 2kg in fluid alone. Been dropping off more since (scales this morning said 104.1) but can't really put anything in until I do another official weigh in. Got smacked in the hand at hockey on Saturday, feels like I've bruised the tendons or something. Can't do a strong grip with that hand, but hopefully I'll be able to do whatever they throw at us this week. Another challenge this weekend, from memory, so we'll see how all that goes. Simply put, we redid the fitness test we did at the start of the competition and had to get at least 2% better overall... We haven't found out results yet, but I think I did OK. 12min run - went from 1.6km the first time to 2.2km this time Sit ups - 16 -> 26 Push ups - about the same I think, mainly due to some heavy gardening during the day 'Beep' test - Lv 5.4 -> 6.4. Drank a little too much water for this one, which didn't help. Should be better than 2%... Also had another weigh in and managed to lose 1.6kg somewhere between Tuesday and Friday night. Jumped on the scales again today after hockey and it was showing 104.3kg... but I can't count that just yet. Entry Tags: This blog has no tags. Entry Title: End of third week / 2nd Team Challenge Entry Category: Biggest Loser Published On: 18-07-2008 07:21 PM Three weeks down now. Had my second update weigh-in - 109.8kg. Lost over 3KG in a week, and just shy of 3KG total now. Getting there slowly... Went for a bike ride last Sunday with Mandy. Did a fair old ride along the creek to the lake and back home again. More of that should help along with the three weekly sessions. Had our second challenge this morning. More bloody bricks... Half it was moving bricks to one side of the track then bringing them all back, while the other half was pushing a little Pulsar car around while the other team did the bricks. Didn't manage to win that one, as everyone was knackered by the end of it. Good work to the other team though, they really put in. Hockey season starts up again this afternoon as well, so there's another 3 hours (playing + umpiring) a week that should help drop a few pounds here and there. Also managed to break the $100/Kg mark, so here's hoping I can get beneath that 100KG mark. Entry Tags: This blog has no tags. Entry Title: Second week down Entry Category: Biggest Loser Published On: 10-07-2008 08:48 PM Two weeks down now. Still waiting for the hockey season to start back up again (next weekend)... should be a lot fitter for that now. All three sessions this week have seen me on a bike for at least half an hour. I think the trainers should actually get together and work out some sort of plan, though my legs seem to be a bit better than before. Also starting two weeks holidays now, so I'll probably squeeze in a couple gym sessions here and there. Any thoughts on what I should do? Entry Tags: This blog has no tags. Entry Title: First Challenge / second week Entry Category: Biggest Loser Published On: 08-07-2008 06:03 PM We had the first team challenge on the weekend. It was basically just more of the same training we'd been doing. First part involved pairs doing 8 different stations. You drew your next station from a bucket and went until you did them all. Kelly and I got lucky and didn't have to repeat too many before we finished first. Second part was a running circuit on the beach. Tied to your partner and carrying a brick, we had 4 / 3 / 2 minutes to do as many laps and pass as many people as we could. I think we came second in this one behind Bevan and Nick. Yesterday night I had my second weigh in. Actually put on .3kg, which makes sense due to my muscles getting used for a change. Dropped a notch on my belt, so at least something is working...
