Getting Banned From a Theater Near You...
I just got a sneak peek at a movie last night, and all I have to say is "WOW."
It was far from the best movie of all time, and it certainly had it's flaws and downtimes, but it was a very inspirational experience for me to see a movie that brought back the good old-style, evelope-pushing, break-every-social-norm form of entertainment back to the big screen.
Maybe it's just me, but it seems movies no longer push the envelope when it comes to political, social, and civil issues. Movies used to drop jaws and stir up trouble for no reason other than to piss people off and challenge what was considered "right" and "wrong" in the modern world. I mean, seriously, when was the last time an over-the-top racist movie like Blazing Saddles came out? Or something so vulgar and crude as the image of grade-schoolers drinking alcohol and smoking like in the original Bad News Bears movie?
Well, the movie I saw last night seeks to make up for the 20-something year lul, which is plainly seen in the movie's tagline:
"Some movies go too far... This movie starts there."
Take a podunk little American town in the middle of nowhere that's populated by nothing but cult fanatics, trailer park trash, a small faction of neo-nazis, Osama Bin Ladin and his main terrorist cell, and crooked cops. Now put them in the middle of a toy craze/shortage that's like the "Tickle Me Elmo" bananza times 1000. Finally, give a military loadout of weaponry to every other person and you've got the most violent and just outright WRONG 90 minutes of theater in front of you.
This movie does things never before fathomed, that to even give you a sample of some of the things seen, would be spoiling the suprise! Let me just say this - NO ONE IS SAFE, NO ONE IS SPARED. Every religion is mocked. Every human, regarless of race or age, is slaughtered. Every world power is belittled. Every celebrety is violated.
The movie is based off of a video game so controversal that it's banned from nearly every store, and more than half the states. If it was in the game, it's in the movie, and it's somehow been taken up (or down) a few notches, too. To watch a man shove the barrel of a gun up a cat's ass as a make-shift silencer in a video game is a disturbing sight... To watch it in a live-action movie is beyond words!
The movie?
"POSTAL"
It's so crude I can't bring myself to recommend it...
...but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't smiling ear-to-ear from start to finish!

I'm looking forward to this.
